What a Wedding Dress Costs at Every Price, From Under $200 to Over $10,000
4,609 prices, split into ten ranges. Each page carries the routes that actually reached that price, the shops that turn up, what the tailoring added and every account brides wrote at that level.
The useful comparison is not the median. It is that the routes change completely between one band and the next, so the question is never only how much but through which door.

What the table shows
Two columns move in opposite directions, and both are worth carrying into whichever page you open. Tailoring climbs with the gown, from a median $182 in the cheapest band to $1,100 in the dearest, roughly 6 times. That is construction rather than snobbery: more layers, more boning and more beading take more hours.
The proportion is the other way round. At $182 the tailoring in the cheapest band is close to the price of the gown it is fitting, while $1,100 against a five-figure dress is a rounding error. A cheap dress does not come with a cheap fitting, which is the single most common budget miss in this dataset.
The no-regret column falls as the price rises, from 87% in the cheapest band to 58% in the dearest, and it does not fall smoothly. Read it alongside the regret page, where the reason is set out: what predicts regret is not the amount but whether it was the amount she planned to spend.
Prices reported in other currencies
83 brides reported in a currency with no page of its own here, mostly euros. Their figures are left in the currency they used rather than converted, because a conversion would invent a precision the account does not have. Canadian, British and Australian prices have their own country pages.

Questions about what to spend
How much do most brides spend on a wedding dress?
More brides land under $700 than anywhere else: the three cheapest bands hold 1,986 of 4,609 prices between them. The median across the whole dataset is $850, and the middle half runs $345 to $1,900.
Does spending more mean fewer regrets?
Not in a straight line. The no-regret share in the table above moves by band, and it does not simply climb with price. What separates the happy accounts from the unhappy ones is whether the amount was the one she meant to spend, which is set out on the regret page.
What changes between price bands?
The route, more than the dress. Under a few hundred dollars the market is online retail, resale and thrift. In the middle it is samples, off the rack and made to measure. Above two thousand it is salons ordering to measure. Each band page ranks the routes that actually reached that price.
Is it normal to regret your wedding dress right after buying it?
Several brides report the same thing unprompted: one felt it within a couple of days of ordering and went back to the boutique, one still regrets her choice five years later, and regulars say regret posts appear multiple times a day in this sub. It is very common here: several said they panicked after ordering and then fell back in love with the gown, while two rebought, including one who replaced a $2,700 dress with a $400 one.
Should I try on wedding dresses above my budget?
Repeatedly called the cardinal rule of dress shopping: do not. The brides only put this one on to look at the back and ended up in tears in the mirror, which some brides read as the shop steering her toward a bigger sale. No. Brides repeatedly warn that stylists pull above-budget gowns and you fall for them; state a hard limit up front. One bride who gave a 1,200 budget was shown only gowns under it and paid 950.
does wedding dress regret go away
For the brides answering here it did. One had major regret a week out and now loves her photos; another wound up with something quite different from her vision and reports zero regret. the bride who asked later confirmed she was happy at pickup. For this bride it did completely. She wrote in a panic months before the wedding, wore the same dress, and came back afterwards saying she felt like a princess in it and was glad she had been talked off the ledge.
can you negotiate the price of a wedding dress at a bridal shop
brides say to ask the shop to meet you halfway or to sell it at your stated budget, and to ring other shops that carry the same gown to compare. The worst outcome is a no. Some brides did: one always asks for 10% off by citing another shop, one haggled a consignment gown to 500, and a shop honored a written misquote so a 10,000-plus gown sold for 6,000; a discontinued floor sample went for 50% off.
should I buy a second wedding dress if I regret the first
Everyone here who did says it was worth it, and the one bride who stuck with her regret dress still feels bummed looking at her photos. The caveat brides add is to pay for it outside the wedding fund rather than eating into other vendors. This bride did: she bought a $300 replacement, compared the two side by side and went with the new one for her barn wedding.
Do brides regret spending a lot on a wedding dress?
The 6,000 bride is torn (worth it on the day, second thoughts when the credit card bills came), the 4,500 bride thinks she could have found cheaper, while those at 1,200-2,500 and the 20-600 bargain hunters report no regret at all. One bride who paid 2,500 before extensive alterations loves the gown but calls the price excessive in hindsight; a relative who paid 1,500 for a niece's gown and a 2005 bride at 650 said it was worth it.

Will I regret buying a cheap wedding dress?
Some do: one bride dislikes most of her photos after choosing an inexpensive gown, another regrets a plain off-the-rack dress, and a dupe bought for roughly 300 instead of 1,600 looks cheap in the fabric and corset; others were fully happy with 350-500 dresses. Both regrets exist here. One bride's friend chose the cheaper dress over her dream dress, which was itself only just over $100, and still regretted it ten years later.
