SHEIN: What Brides Paid
13 prices reported at SHEIN run a median $60, from $26 to $250. That sits below the $850 median across every route in this dataset. Separately, 31 brides described what the shop was like to deal with, and 61% of them recommend it.
What brides paid
Every row is one bride: what she paid for the gown, what the tailoring came to when she reported it, and the year.
| Gown | Tailoring | Year | The account |
|---|---|---|---|
| $26 | $241 | 2022 | Alterations cost nine times the dress; seamstress said it does not look cheap |
| $40 | – | 2022 | Shein dress 40, not yet delivered at time of comment; backup dress picked in case of return |
| $44 | – | 2022 | Shein dress for 44; fit well and no guilt about single wear |
| $50 | – | 2023 | hemmed the tulle herself |
| $50 | – | 2026 | Bride in her forties who tried much pricier gowns first and picked this one for the stretch fabric |
| $60 | – | 2023 | 60 SHEIN dress bought before knowing about the brand's issues; felt gorgeous |
| $60 | – | 2025 | Sequin party dress worn for an elopement, veil from the same site; only the bust was pinched, shapewear underneath |
| $75 | – | 2025 | Expects to be judged for it but was working to a tight budget. |
| $125 | – | 2022 | Two dresses from Shein for 125 total for both brides; renting would have been about 350 |
| $150 | – | 2025 | Ordered and returned about ten gowns before keeping this one; straps shortened, hem taken up for a 5ft bride, bustle added |
| $180 | – | 2025 | HCOL area with no local seamstress option; not the dress she pictured but she plans to sew on 3D flowers |
| $200 | – | 2024 | Ordered as a joke against a 2500 budget; she cut out tulle layers herself and rates the build above bridal-shop gowns she had tried on |
What brides recommend it for
- Ordered a very inexpensive gown; says reviews are your best friend on that site, chose a wrap style because it is forgiving with no time for alterations, and the return policy is generous if you order early.
- Ordered about ten wedding dresses, tried them at home and returned all but one; her alterations shop was surprised by the source; needed hem, shorter straps and a bustle
- $60 white floral sequin party dress worn as an elopement gown plus a $5 comb veil; took a size small instead of her usual 6/8 because the fabric stretches
- Ordered a batch at $25 to $75 each to try at home; rated the quality good and would have had one tailored. Cheap enough to buy several and compare shapes.
- TOLEEN-branded long formal dress for $25, listed elsewhere near $60; true to size, still fits after about 25 lbs gained; full refunds to original payment
- Bride in her forties paid 50 after trying far more expensive gowns; loves the stretch, and says the site carries renaissance-leaning styles too
- Bought occasion dresses, not gowns, for under EUR 40 each and gets compliments; argues the labour practices are no worse than big brands.
- 200 dollar gown ordered half as a joke; boning and lace held up, she removed tulle layers herself and only a hem is left to pay for
- Very cheap gowns with free returns; she says she gets downvoted for suggesting it but rates it worth a look on a tight budget
- Says her friend ordered the same dress there and it was beautiful; the comment was heavily downvoted by the discussion
What brides warn about
- Bought a near-identical floral dress in blue and gold for her brother's wedding; says what arrives matches the listing photos, unlike some rival sites, but flags the ethics separately
- His fiancee got three bridesmaid dresses for under $100 total; her own gown came from Amazon and was altered locally. the bride who asked declined over labour and chemical reports.
- Bought her own wedding gown on SHEIN, choosing the listing by studying customer review photos across different lighting and body types; dress not received yet.
- Her $130 long-sleeved gown is constricting through the arms and hard to raise her hands in; the discussion also flagged creasing fabric and a cheap-looking bodice.
- Bought several dresses; the best one was thin stretchy fabric, the rest see-through, torn, baggy or fraying, and one could not fit a human shape at all.
- Strongly against it: exploitative labour, and separately the quality is poor enough that the same budget buys something much better elsewhere.
- Bought there because local average was 3000, then worried it would look cheap and nobody would tell her; wore a friends free gown instead.
- Calls the company horrible but it was the only place she found a gown she liked at that price in a HCOL area with no seamstress nearby.
How it compares
The median across every route in this dataset is $850, a bridal salon runs $1,900, and secondhand sits lower again. A shop is worth judging against the route it belongs to rather than against the whole market, which is what the where-to-buy page sets out.
