What brides recommend it for

• Offered $700 on an $800 listing for a gown that sells new at $1,775 and it was accepted; the purchase amount earned free expedited shipping, and the seller's measurements matched hers within an inch or two of height
• Watched Poshmark and The RealReal for months until the Kamperett Loretta midi she wanted appeared, and bought it there; she notes buying it new would not have been painful either.
• Bought her mother-of-the-groom dress from a seller there and was happy with it; she paid for alterations but the dress itself was cheap. Sellers will add photos on request.
• Jessica McClintock reception dress for 147 including shipping and fees; it arrived very tight and the seamstress is adding an inch at the top rather than her replacing it.

What brides warn about

• Found a 90 dollar dress by only considering listings that needed nothing beyond hemming; alterations plus a tailor-made overskirt still came to about 500, and stock depends on your size and style turning up
• Spent a long time hunting this gown in her size there at $400-1,200 and never found it, then a listing appeared the day after she took the full-price one to the tailor
• Suggested as the cheap route to the same labels, but the brides ruled it out because there are no returns and she cannot judge her size right now.
• No alterations needed, but the gown came with small stains that had set; she says buy only from sellers who dry-cleaned after the wedding
