What brides recommend it for

• Made to your measurements or from a clear size guide, true to size, with fabric samples and a try-it-on option. Two dresses cost her under $500 combined and she rates the material and construction.
• A coordinator who saw the gown at a wedding she worked: bride and her mother ordered several, kept one, returned the rest. Minor alterations only and the lace passed for a boutique gown.
• Bought his wife's gown plus a veil; custom sizing offered, arrived in about a week, looked exactly like the listing photo, fabric quality unremarkable but not visible in pictures
• Used the home try-on service for a mother-of-the-bride dress; it fit apart from length, shipped from a US warehouse, and her blunt seamstress found nothing cheap about the build.
• Ordered the cheaper of two similar off-shoulder sweep-train gowns at 279. Once production started they would not swap it without an extra charge; she is happy with the result.

What brides warn about

• Their veil is good but the jewellery lost a rhinestone on day one and the purse feels like styrofoam; she picked the dress for its review count and video try-ons.
• Their 30 ball-gown petticoat arrived stinking and misshapen, needing two days airing outside and two hours of ironing; outer layers are scratchy and it runs hot.
• Gown arrived shorter than the listing photo, unlined, near see-through and stiff. Expedited shipping paid on top. Returnable only unworn, unaltered and tagged.
• Her favourite of three cheap online dresses never arrived at all, despite ordering more than three months before the wedding. The backups saved her.
• Ordered a dress for an event and calls the quality horrid: itchy mesh with no give across the chest. It put her off ordering a wedding gown online.
• Several occasion dresses, about a month to arrive, good quality overall, but built-in bra cups come in mismatched shades and loosely stitched.
• Ordered the identical gown; it ripped at the side the day before her wedding and with no backup she married in a white formal dress instead.
